ONCE UPON A TIME...
It's the summer of 2012, and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" is at the top of the charts (and my iPod's top songs playlist). I've just graduated from the University of Michigan's musical theatre program with my BFA and "showcased" in New York City to disappointing results. No matter, I queue up "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson and pound the pavements every day.
Meanwhile, I'm starting to put my voice teacher certification to use and open up shop as a voice teacher.
A few years into the hustle and grind of auditioning, I had a few more items on my resume, but my heart wasn't in it anymore.
Instead, what lit me up was teaching voice.
I thrived on meeting a singer for a first lesson and guiding them to a "lightbulb" moment, a sensation they had never experienced before. I was energized by preparing a student for their Broadway call-back the next day.
By 2019, my studio was busy! So I brought on two associate voice teachers, Brooke Solan and Erin Wilson. And in 2021, Renee Maranan joined the CWVS team.
At first, it was embarrassing to admit that I was stepping away from my Broadway dream. But doing so allowed me to create something even better.
I remember sitting in a restaurant in midtown Manhattan and excusing myself to listen to a voicemail from an unknown number. Broadway was calling!
In 2017, I started as the associate vocal coach on the Broadway production of SCHOOL OF ROCK. That led to work on the Broadway and international productions of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, the tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, and the Off-Broadway run of ROCK OF AGES.
Seeing my name in a Broadway Playbill (very tiny in the back!) was the realization of a lifelong dream. I just never could have imagined it would happen this way.
Now I always remember, I'm on my own path. And you are too.
MY REALLY OFFICIAL BIO, the TL:DR VERSION
Chelsea Wilson is a voice teacher specializing in musical theatre performance. She’s a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Musical Theatre BFA program and uses her expertise to support her students all over the world, from Broadway stars to amateurs singers.
In 2017 she began working as the associate vocal coach on the Broadway production of SCHOOL OF ROCK and later THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
In 2021 she co-founded Broadway Vocal Coach, an online training platform for professional and aspiring musical theatre performers who want to take the next step in their careers.
Brooke Solan
I’m a graduate of Syracuse University’s BFA Musical Theater program and a Level 2 instructor at the Institute of Vocal Advancement. I fell in love with teaching while auditioning for Broadway shows in NYC, and then—the pandemic happened!
I moved back home to Las Vegas, kept teaching, got engaged to my amazing fiancé, and went to graduate school!
In May 2023 I will be a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with a Master of Science in Communication Disorders. Fun fact - I’m studying at a Voice Specialty Clinic right now where I get to scope patients and use Videostroboscopy to see the vocal folds in action!
I will never be done learning about voice and striving to be the best teacher I can be for you! Let’s sing together!

Helping others grow and find success with their voice is what I happily wake up to do everyday!
I'm a bi-coastal actor, coach, and THE artist hype-woman. When I’m not performing on a stage or screen near you, I’m helping singers + actors grow and navigate the entertainment industry. As a tried and true multi-hyphenate, I embrace doing it all. I’ve performed on Broadway (WICKED) and national tours (WICKED, SISTER ACT). I’ve worked on film and commercial sets. I’ve taught as a university professor (Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University) and in my own studio.
It’s safe to say my experiences have taught me the ins and outs of the industry. The truth is, I love it. I’m happily on this wild ride of being a professional artist, and I’m in the driver's seat. Now I help other artists drive their careers too.
Renee Maranan
I’m a Mentor level certified vocal instructor with the Institute for Vocal Advancement, and am also proud to be one of its Ambassadors — a distinction only given to thirteen out of hundreds of teachers from all over the world.
My personal specialization is in pop music, but I teach aspiring and professional singers from all genres, with a strong focus on vocal technique that results in balance, versatility, range, and confidence. I also teach and mentor vocal instructors worldwide by providing private lessons and offering teacher training classes and keynotes at vocal instructors conferences in person and online.
I recently joined the team as a staff writer for Worship Musician Magazine where I write about vocal technique and performance.
I bring the full strength of my talents, education, experience, compassion, humor, and all of the other things that make me who I am, to create an experience of joy and connection, while helping clients achieve measurable and powerful results.
